Internet Explorer 7 64 Bit on Windows Vista Ultimate is one of them.

No, but I think I can remember times when it worked somehow.

only if you open a lot of documents during one session. Otherwise the 
ajax code might be bigger. It's always about what you do in one session. 
  Ajax is nice and increases speed if you do a lot but it's not usable 
for some people and decreases speed if you e.g. only open one document.

No. TYPO3 is a web interface. If there should be another interface we 
should think about how it can be done better. E.g. provide an executable 
that is capable of working with offline synced files..
