Hi Ries,
I need to say that such a remark make me a little angry. Why did we start
the Extension Coordination Team? Because extensions like api_macmade,
obts, kb_shop, ameos_formidable etc. are all full of experience and
usefull concepts. But they are all one man shows and don't work together.
We don't need a million of incompatible extensions in TER but a few
hundred of compatible ones. So we started ECT as a forum to bring the best
concepts of the best together and to improve the TYPO3 project as a whole.
But did you ever see Jerome Schneider, Dan Frost, Bernhard Kraft,
Jean-David Gadina, Rupert Germann, just as a few examples for others,
taking up this chance joinig the team, searching for common guidelines,
interfaces etc.? I didn't. Obviously they prefer their one man show to the
benefit of the whole.
Is this the nature of extension developers? Are they all unable to do the
minimum of self organization? Isn't there a way? See the long list of
subscribers to ECT: http://wiki.typo3.org/index.php/Ect. Now, who has
contributed to the common library so far? 2 people, Franz Holzinger and
me. lib and div are on the common extension developer platform typo3xdev
for over 6 monthes now!!!!
Kasper has asked me to take up the leadership of ECT. But I am rather
frustrated meanwhile seing this big crowed of egocentrics in the extension
developers scene. I will give it a chance another 6 monthes. If the
situation hasn't changed fundumentally, I will likely resign from this
task.
Please remind that there are also very positive examples: party framework,
calendar base, extension comparison project ...
Regards
Elmar
