I still think targeting for 2007/TYPO3 5.0 is realistic. PHP5 has come a 
long way but is not yet available in the majority of hosting 
environments. I guess this is mainly because Debian sarge doesn't ship 
with PHP5. On the other hand, PHP5 really does improve productivity a 
*lot* IMHO, so it is definitely worth considering only to use that for 
new features. Robert has done this for quite some time already.

This situation makes it also quite hard to keep up with our current road 
map. A lot of usability issues can only be solved with new code, and I 
wouldn't want or be able to backport all that into the 3.5 codebase. But 
I'm getting off topic, let's release 4.0 first and *then* have a new 
R&D-meeting.
