Hello developers,

there are hundreds of extensions. It's funny, but I think that some
extensions are really missing although it would be few work to provide them.

I write this posting in the hope, that someone pics up the development of
the one or other of this extensions. Please also report, if you know of
extensions, that solve the tasks.

1.) Global categories:

We need a tree like the categories of DAM or tt_news, but as an independent
extension other extensions can build upon. I state it has big chances to
make it's way into the core soon.

2.) Result browser object:

The result browser in pi_base still sucks. Again extensions like tt_news go
the way to provide their own implementation. But like with categories
instead of delivering it as a common extension for the use of all they
implement a private solution each. I think we need a better page browser,
with a better API. A would prefer an independent class to a funtion in pi_base.

3.) Easy user registration:

User registration and login are very central. A lot of extensions working
with fe_users depend on them. The original feuser_registration is not
sufficiant enough. sr_feuser_registration is rather too powerfull and
complicated. It takes too much time to configure it, if you want a clean
output. The huge template file is difficult to edit because of size and
duplication or multiplication of a lot of setting. I think it is possible
to do a user registration that is as powerfull but much easier to
configure. Every setting should only be needed done one time.

4.) Easy newsletter:

Direct mail:

* very difficult to handle
* the content category system is too powerfull for the usual cases
* like with the fe_user registration the setup is too complicated

I see 2 alternatives:

* Bilding a new extension for simple newsletter handling.
* Facelifting of the existing extension

Please don't take this posting as an invitation to provide extensions of
this types without communication to others. Especially for 3 and 4 I advise
you to contact the current owner Stanislas and future owner Franz before.

Find out how you could reach satisfactory solutions in cooperation
whereever possible. I think i.e. of an "easy newsletter" and a "full
newsletter" where both use the same library or build upon each other. Maybe
it is just a question to reorganze the existing extensions into an "easy
variant" and a "full variant" instead of only having the one full variant.

I name 4 extensions here and ask you to extend the list if you see some
other missing extensions.

Regards

Elmar
