I fully agree to that. As this one is really an easy migration I would 
suggest a written migration guide instead of magic. Imho small things 
may break between majors. You have to remove all your requires in the 
code already for example. You have to see if everything works on PHP 5.3 
if you worked with PHP 5.2 and upgrade potentially your server to a 
newer distribution. An easy upgrade/migration means to me a good 
documented one where many issues have already been solved and I just 
have to apply them to my code. Keep the code clean and release us from 
years of compat layers. People won't migrate their code if there is no 
reason to, at least I usually don't do.
