This patch changes a 3rd party library. What is the correct procedure in this case? Simply changing
the code (without documenting the fact) makes updates of the lib impossible.

Looking at the projects "trac" I see that Dmitry has already pointed out solutions for the PHP 5.3
problems. Sadly these don't seem to be too urgent for the developers.
