I fully agree.

Looking back, I think it would have been better to release alpha
versions first and have the feature freeze with the change from alpha to
beta. Then the word "Release Candidate" would be reserved for something
that is hopefully just renamed to final - while all known bugs are
already fixed in the beta phase.

But in the current situation, I think it is sensible to release the RC
and have a feature freeze now, even though we know that there are still
some things to be fixed before the release. The advantages are a broader
testing audience and a clear message that from now on only important and
well tested bugfixes can enter the core.

What about those new l10n language packs, will they be distributed with
the RC? They might need testing as well.
