For me those two paragraphs are counterspeaking.
Let me formulate it this way: The first one tells me I have the full
right to do with my work what I want. The second one tells me I am not
allowed to give the full rights away.
But the other part of your reply clarifies this to me:
> »[...] dass das kontinentaleuropäische Urheberrecht, anders als das

> vollständigen Verzicht auf das Recht unmöglich macht (vergleiche

Being the creator (Urheber) does in my opinion not mean you are entitled
to do with a software whatever you like. If you sell the rights for a
book to a printing company, you can not later on tell them you are going
to sell the book on your own. And neither can you release it for free -
except the printing company allows you to do so.
The "Urheber" is just a term which defines who created some piece of
work. And AFAIK there are some rights connected to it. But I did never
read the law about the "Urheberrecht".
But a license is something different. If you license a software under
the GPL, you give away the right to do with the software whatever one
wants as long as the copyright message stays intact - translating to
European law: As long as the message stays intact which tells you who
the creator (Urheber) was.
from the GPL "2. Basic permissions"
---------
All rights granted under this License are granted for the term of
copyright on the Program, and are irrevocable provided the stated
conditions are met.
---------
So by definition released software is irrevocable licensed under the GPL.
Anyways the GPL does not keep you of selling your program. If you create
software for another company and license the software as GPL you can of
course get money for selling them the software. I guess it is also
possible to have an additional agreement with a company so they do not
give your GPLed software away to others, altough the GPL entitles them
do so. But this is just something you have to clarify with the people
you work for.
greets,
Bernhard
