I think the generic solution is the best one. It may not always make 
sense to repeat a failing test again and again, but it's nice to have it 
  in your own test. (E.g. I also ping a SOAP-service, and there It can 
definitively be usefull.)

What about a flag in the 
tx_caretaker_ServiceHelper::registerCaretakerService() that every 
test-service can set if it needs that additional field?
