Minutes from the 12th meeting of the 4.6 Release Team

The 4.6 release team meets weekly for a Skype discussion round on the
current activities. If you find this report interesting or have some
comment or question about a particular topic, don't hesitate to
follow-up on the thread in the v4 mailing list.

On Monday, June 27th 2011 we held our 12th meeting with the following
participants:

* Xavier Perseguers (4.6 Release Manager)
* Oliver Hader (Core Team Leader)
* Benjamin Mack (4.4 Release Manager)
* Ben van't Ende (Community Manager)

Topics
============================

RFC reviews are now working properly. We have the feeling many people
finally got accustomed to Gerrit and the workflow with Git/Gerrit/Forge.

Form project
----------------------------

Ben had a look at the 30-page manual. Even if it is not "finished" and
polished yet, it already contains enough information to be worth a
publication. He told us he will try to publish it once he is not in a
meeting.

The goal of this publication is to gather feedback using the issue
tracker for the form project [1]. Patrick will then finalize the manual.

We then discussed if we should centralize the validation part as
discussed (see last week's minutes). We agreed on doing this refactoring
once the form project has been integrated and mark this task as a child
of the integration task.

[ *TODO* Ben ] Publish the manual
[ *TODO* Benni ] Get in touch with Patrick to present the form project
during the Core team days (e.g., on Wednesday or Thursday or at last
during T3DD11 with the Coding night)

Toolbar in ExtJS
----------------------------

I did not manage to get in touch with Steffen K yet. As T3DD11 is coming
soon, we will try to start discussing the new API face to face.

[ *TODO* Xavier ] Discuss the API with Steffen K.

TCEforms Refactoring
----------------------------

Andreas seems to have prepared a small presention for the Core team
meeting next week. Looking forward to discovering it.

Install Tool
----------------------------

Steffen K. told us a few weeks ago that he found some bugs in the
Install Tool and wanted to report them to the bug tracker.

[ *TODO* Xavier ] Get in touch with Steffen K. to see the status

S.C.O.T.T.Y.
----------------------------

SCOTTY is the acronym of Global *S*emantic *C*ategory, *O*ntology, *T*ag
and *T*axonomy S*y*stem and acts as an TYPO3 4.6 subproject umbrella for
a few sub-subprojects. Ben sent an email to know the status of this
project, because we hardly find minutes when opening the forge project
[2] although we do know that this project is not dead.

[ *TODO* Ben ] Clarify with the team what is planned to be integrated
within TYPO3 4.6

XLIFF
----------------------------

A lot of activity happened since last week and the XLIFF integration
within master branch is better (nearly) every few days. Thanks to all
contributors and reviewers!

I had a meeting last week before the TUG event we organized in Lausanne,
Switzerland together with Dominique, Laurent and François. We discussed
the next steps. All our discussion is available as separate XLIFF
minutes [3].

Laurent pointed out that the current virtual server we got for Pootle is
not powerful enough. This was already reported and the server team is
working out a solution.

Dominique will provide a patch to integrate his conversion tool from
LLXML to XLIFF within extension extdeveval, just as we currently have an
option to convert LLPHP to LLXML.

We still have a problem with the XLIFF integration when it comes to back
compatility in JavaScript and we definitively need ideas from JS gurus
within the community. Basically the problem is as following. We now have
a method TYPO3.l10n.localize(<key>) to get labels within JS scripts
whereas we previously had an array TYPO3.lang.<key> or
TYPO3.lang[<key>]. Even if the goal is to backport XLIFF into 4.5 LTS
once it is stable as a rock, we would like to avoid forcing developers
to basically provide 2 JS files, one when using TYPO3.lang (currently in
4.5, 4.4, ...) and one when using TYPO3.l10n.localize(). Ideally we are
looking for some magic getter just as PHP lets us use but in JS and...
compatible with all standard browser (including IE).

[ *TODO* Ben ] Monitor this project

Subprojects of TYPO3 4.6
----------------------------

We did some cleanup during our meeting and moved completely inactive
projects out of the list of subprojects for TYPO3 4.6. Feature freeze is
coming soon (August 2nd) and the few of them that we removed could
simply not *start* any work until then.

Dates
============================

* TYPO3 4.6 alpha3 on July 12th 2011
* *Feature Freeze and TYPO3 4.6 beta1 on August 2nd 2011*
   no new features and no exceptions after the feature freeze date
* Final Release of TYPO3 4.6.0 on October 25th 2011

Next steps
============================

If you feel interested in a particular project or task, please reply on
the list or directly get in contact with Xavier Perseguers as Release
Manager of TYPO3 4.6.
