An interesting idea is to change only some of the characters with 
images, eg @ (at) and . (dot) and possibly - (hyphen) and _ (underscore) 
as well. Can be made to be to be accessible by using as alt-text 
correctly. A screen reader should correctly pronounce the address as the 
replaced chars have to be pronounced as a single char anyway (eg "first 
dot name at my dot domain"). But of course you have to define a whole 
set of images depending on page context (font size, etc).
