[TYPO3-install] 123 install no connection to the database.

They are the same.

Interesting.  In that case I won't first role back to one of 5.0.x-5.1.x which is 
recommended for Typo3 4.5 LTS.

No.  I logged in directly at the command line.  Now that you mention it though, 
perhaps that would yield different results.

Yes it does.  I connected with:
mysql --protocol=SOCKET --socket=/tmp/mysql.sock -u typo3 -p

Although, I now wonder if php is not trying to connect to that db.  Hmm...
