I forgot to mention one last option :-)

4) You want to access a subtree of your TYPO3 website from 
http://subdomain.domain.tld.

- Update your Apache configuration for the TYPO3 website you have

ServerName www.domain.tld
ServerAlias subdomain.domain.tld

- Create a domain record on the root node of the subtree (in List mode)

- You may need to update realurl_conf.php (rootpage_id) if you use 
RealURL (never tried without it but it will work, perhaps with further 
configuration)
