[TYPO3] how does FE editing really work?

Hi,

Just some small questions about enabling the FE editing.

Does a user who wants to edit the site via the FE have to be  a BE user?

Because all of our users are imported via Ldap. but not as BE users. So 
this could probably explain when i add
admPanel {
  enable.edit = 1
}
to the users tscript it doesn't do anything.

How can i add a simple user that is only allowed to do FE editing and 
none of the BE things?
in other words disable BE editing.
