I guess there is something in this analysis. Canadian and europan people
share the scepticism against culture-economical monopolisms that seem to
be an essential part of the official american dream. Economical and
media monopols, success stories that daily prove the truth of the
american dream: Coca cola, Mc Donalds, Microsoft, Time-Warner etc.
In the eyes of the rest of the world this economical self-conception
often looks like lack of culture. People tend to solidarize against it,
to defend personal freedom and plurality. It is well known in other
countries, that there is a huge minority of people in USA that share
this multicultural consciousness. Typically they tend to life at the
coasts and in the north of USA. That are the regions most postings of
americans in this thread come from, if I counted them rightly.
I would state, that open source software is a part of this earth wide
solidary movement against economical and cultural monopolisms and for
freedom of small business.
