[Typo3] RTE Links: Removing target

By default links created in the Rich Text Editor (RTE) are set to _blank
which not only causes new windows but breaks Validation. I tried setting
it defaultLinkTarget = "_self" but all that did is sets the target to
"page" which royally busts it up.


I have been looking for a solution for sometime, has anyone found
anything that works how it should ?
