This is the main reason, I guess, that I am very confused here.

This I understand but it is any OTHER content element as in:

that I can't get my arms around enough to understand how to set this to
the US format.

I too have never seen any answers to this and I have posted this question
here a number of times but have seen no answers. I am not sure if there
are any or if it is in the Docs somewhere and I am being ignored. I am
frustrated.
