[Typo3] Typo3 vs Plone. What are strenghts and weaknesses?

thank you for the link. I visited it. But it only has a very sketchy 
overview off Plone. Nothing of a comparison yet.

To answer you question.
Most of the plone site have a similarly looking navigation not because 
there are no ohters
but because the standard one does fit the bill quiet well.
In fact it is extreamly easy to enhance/change the structure. It is all 
done in CSS.

And of course because we are lazy.

Here is a site (the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory)
http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/index.cfm
that shows a more "standard" navigation.

To tell you the whole truth (but it must remain between the two of us), 
it used to be a bit complicated to adapt the
Navigation tree that sits in the left column. Put nowadays there are 
several modules one can choose from.
