[Typo3] Filelink with pdf conversion to GIF problem

Philip,
On my server there is 5.4.7 and it nicely converts the PDF to JPEG. At least
that is what I see in the install tool. On a local server I have a 6 version
and that is cheeting me by not doing the convert for JPG and AI. I am
puzzled about that and look forward to somebody being able to give a hint to
solve this.
