In theory yes. But the layout/size of classic and t3skin icons varies 
much. Addtionally ext developers didn't stick to the sizes of the 
"default" icons so the result may not look very well.

Note also that there are many states (hidden, user access, start/stop 
time) which in theory could be combined. Unfortunately the designers of 
t3skin did not have the auto-generating icon feature in mind when 
creating their icon set. To do them justice: the skinning API of TYPO3 
is too poor to made this an easy job.

To sum it up, I would reenable this feature only if there was a 
rethinking of how the feature should work and what is requested of a 
complying icons set and what is expected of an extension developer.
