[TYPO3-dev] long field names

Hi All,
  when editing records in the backend, where a field is a database 
relation, both the select box and the popup selector box shorten the 
'title' field.
A client is editing award records associated with products. Where the 
product name is longer than about 30 characters it is impossible for 
them to tell which product they are selecting for the award.
Is it possible to increase the number of characters that are shown in 
the select box or popup selector box for the title?
If so, how?
