It seems not in this case :((( I'm cropping subheader of tt_news record
and it seems that tt_news is calling the crop function from
t3lib_cs.php. 

I have tried to output strings from both functions and above mentioned
crop is handling the correct data while stdWrap crop function outputs
nothing :((

Now I'm in doubt: should this be discussed here or should I transfer the
discussion to tt_news group? Because the problem of incorrect utf-8
handling remains :((
