This is, what it's all about.
I had not one reasonable explanation what autocinf is nor what it could do.
There is no use in a general typo3 focus, merely in mass-hosting stuff.
Plus:
I recall a thing called superadmin.php that did ALL things that were
explained during this thread and it's there.
There is no need to check for server environments because the server is
not typo3.
The server is apache, sql and some tools - but not typo3.
Why is nobody able to state some clear benefits what autoconf would
improve over a PHP based script?

You can use PHP from your shell too, so that's not an option
