I did some installations of Typo3 on Debian
- one on a Debian Woody - works fine
- one on Debian Sarge - works fine also
these two run with PHP4, on my Laptop (as development machine) i run 
Debian Sarge with Apache(1.3.29) and PHP5. Typo3 v3.6-RC2 gives me 
errors... I try to install new Typo3 version first, before asking 
about the msg.
