[Typo3-debian] Wrong graphics with debian sarge

Hello Patrick,

i have a similar problem with gd2 on sarge! It renders nearly the same crazy
pictures instead of correct effects like shadows.

It would be great, if i could mail you my package list, so that we can
compare. Furthermore, have you tried other packages or do you have other to
try? Maybe you even have succeeded, found and solved the problem?! That
would be really great. 8)

See, i have tried to get this to work seriously since some days - without
luck till today. Everything works fine - but no effects, like pretty shadows
etc. In the install tests only the last gd library "shadow-nice-text-test"
fails, independed of which options i choose and configure from within typo3.
Well now it`s weekend and i have time again. So it would be great if we
could get in touch soon.

Btw: On http://typo3.sunsite.dk/software/debian/ is stated:

Please note: Current GD libraries in Debian Sid seem to be broken. It is
suggested that you run your server with a Woody release (Debian 3.0, stable)

Well, actually the versions of libgd2-xpm, php4 (4.3.4) and so on for
testing (sarge) and unstable (sid) are the same! Only if one would install
php4 from the stable (woody) tree, it might work, i guess. However, this is
NO OPTION, at least in my case, because with woody you only get PHP 4.1.2
but many of the scripts used here (boards etc.) require 4.2.x or even 4.3.x
for full-featured and best performance.

But at least one list member (M. Stucki) told me, that it works *great* for
him on sarge. However, he never told me, whether he *actually used* sarge
packages of php4 and libgd2-xpm or not. Maybe he is using the packages from
woody..

I would be really happy to hear from you!

regards

Alexander Schories
