[TYPO3-workspace] How scalable are workspaces?

Dear workspace friends,

I want to make you aware of the "workspaces dilemma".

Kidding ;-) However I have some trouble with them:

I had to enable workspaces in a 4.5-dev installation with ~50k pages and 
created a workspace with a DB mount of a smaller branch (~500 pages).

Rendering WS previews mostly doesn't work, as it blocks the server and 
also locks other SQL queries with lots of queries like:
 > SELECT pid FROM pages WHERE pid!=-1 AND t3ver_state=3 AND
 > t3ver_move_id=<pid> AND ..

It seems like all requested pids are at least in the branch of the 
workspace.

The menu doesn't include all levels, for which the pid is requested.

If a request doesn't time out, generation time of a single page preview 
takes ~60sec.
