and additionally:
- fast as it is plain text only
- local search which is fast too
- no ads, no spam
- no need for moderators
- crosspostings
- all the features of a newsreader like in thunderbird with one click
the unread messages, or highlight messages with one click, ...

I see the point of forums as mailinglists or newsgroups are oldtime
fashion in many eyes.
