I just noticed that I hadn't answered to this specific idea. I agree 
that a lot could be achieved with tabs. Actually at the beginning of 
this thread I pointed to the ezPublish download page [1] which uses tabs 
to great effect IMO. However I feel that this is too much upheaval for 
the current version of typo3.org, knowing that a new one is in the making.
