The concept is good - it's a step in the right direction at least.

I like the fact that the layout gives room for more current information
and updates on what's happening in the community. It's easy to miss new
podcasts in the current design but with this suggested design it part of
the overall layout.

Putting lot of content on the front page makes it clutter but at the
same time it shortens navigation time (few clicks) to many sections of
the site.

I like the community feeling the design gives instead of the point of
sale style.


And over to some minor issues/suggestions

I think it would look better centered and with a bit smaller right
column. Maybe even a sharper border between them could improve the look.

The new spacing between news item is something that would be implimented
on the existing typo3.org layout (small fix i would guess)

The podcast field should have Download latest  Show all podcasts link at
the bottom instead of the full title of the latest podcast as link
(Download "Extensions: Special content elements" video)

And you could probably have more links on the same line in the other
right column boxes.
