I updated the extension here:

It now has an additonal option: "Exclude chars"

Which allows to set characters not used in the captchas. Patrick wrote me a mail
that after suggestions on the web the following characters are irritating in a captcha:

I added them as defaults into this field (is at the very bottom in the EM config)
