Firsts, this is an assumption that people always read e-mails :) In fact 
I know quite many people who did not read e-mails for several months 
even though they have their e-mail client open.

Secondly, I did not say it should be newsgroup only. But I would be 
happy to see a mirror of announcements list as a news group.
