funny turn here:
the extension voting system was dismised last year in favour of the
extension review process - and now we are nearly back with user-based rating
system.
and yes: in my eyes it makes much more sense to let registered typo3.org
users rate extensions because this gives some real world feedback on the
usefullness of an extension.
as elmar suggested: there should be some pre-defined categories, like "fully
supports CSS", "complexity", "template system", "cacheable", "supports
indexed search", "supports multilang" and so on.
combine this with a rating from 1-10 and collect some dozens of votes and
voila: you have a fairly good picture if an extension could help you in your
project...
this user-based rating doesn"t not mean that the extension review process
should be completely dismissed, but we have the extrev project for a year
now and nothing has happened. the reason for this: it simply takes to much
time & work to do so on a volunteer basis. even if it would be nice to have
an official label "typo3 certified extension" i don't see this to be happen
in the short- or the mid-term.
so user ratings would be a great step to provide at least some organized
user feedback at all - and this is something i really badly miss.
my 2 cents,
rainer
