I tried to find the error. When typing in rtp_smarty in EM it doesn't 
find the extension. question: did it before? After downloading 0.9.5 
from 18.10.2007 directly I see in ext_conf.php:

$EM_CONF[$_EXTKEY] = array(
	'title' => 'TYPO3 is Smarter',
	(...)
	'state' => 'beta',
	(...)
);

If you have changed this twice to 'obsolete' maybe the EM doesn't knwo 
'obsolete'???
