There are similar project for other editors, But not for Eclipse.
I think they release for jEdit a typoscript editor, I believe also
for a other editor but I cannot remember it's name, google
is your friend here!!

Your work will not be lost for at at least 2-3 year (trying to look  
into my crystal boll)
typo3 V5 is no where near any alpha release and I believe it mostly a  
concept.

So I think typo3 4 version will have quite some feature still..

Me, and many other using Eclipse for there main developments I believe,
so that will for sure benefit...

However, would it be better if you make something stand alone  
everybody can use?
I don't think that most of my clients will install Eclipse because of  
it's complexity.
But if they had a simple editor where they can easily select a  
website, a page
and it's typoscript.. they might be more happy.... Just a thought..

Personally I would love to see it in Eclipse of course...
Just that the user base might be bigger if there was a  easy to  
install cross platform TS editor.
