Yes. Everything you like. The tree is endless.
Usecase:http://india-tourism.com/
Assume you make this tourism page. It's TYPO3. You have all this regions:
Delhi, Punjab, Goa, Assam, Bihar, Maharashtra ....
You want to have news, articles, addressess, image gallery for each of
the region. How do find interesting stuff for the searchword "horses" in
all plugins for the region Delhi?
Old way
=======
1.) You use the global search. The result is a choas from the cached
pages. You don't find non cached stuff. Google search is better here.
2.) You one by one select news or articles or addressess or image
gallery. Then you query each of them for the category "region" Delhi and
searchword "horse". A lot of work for you. A lot of work for the editors
to configure the same region categories for every plugin.
With Common Categories
======================
- Editors configure the region categories only once. They select from
them for each plugin type.
- The visitor simply uses the "Common Categories Serach" a combination
of all plugin searches.
region category: Delhi
searchword: horses
The result is a list of all matching news, articles, addressess, images.
In opposit to the global search you have a well formatted resultlist
with links to the single views of each entry. The formatting can be
defined individually for each of the connected plugin types.
You can add and combine in the search form more category types: Regions,
History, Hobbies, ....
Well, that's just the beginning ....
