There are also other galleries like lz_gallery which could be improved 
to use DAM. Maybe this extension should be combined with this, too.

I am currently developing the same to list images with tt_products for a 
picture shop.

Maybe you could provide a DAM FE library extension. So all DAM specific 
code could be collected there.

Maybe a common basket function or hook could be developed to sell images 
as products and articles.
