Hello Extension Coordination Team,

a month ago ECT became an official node of the Research & Development
Committee, wich pushes a lot of new developments. I want to start with
regular status reports to the community now. So this one is the first. The
period of the reports will oscillate between a week and a month.

Enable people to cooperate

Elmar

Jan-Hendrik Comes on Board [1]
==========================
I want to announce Jan-Hendrik as 2. member of the board of ECT. I have
invited Jan-Hendrik as board member because he is interested in the
community aspects of ECT. He has a long experience with TYPO3 and is
allways an active and powering person.

As an official node of the R&D commettee we need a little more structure.
The constitution of a board is one of the steps. Together with Jan-Hendrik
I will reflect, who could be the third member of the board. I can imagine
up to 5 board members, when ECT is getting bigger.

So welcome on board Jan-Hendrik

First IRC Conference
====================
This week we performed the first ECT conference on IRC. We plan to have a
weekly conference. The conference is open for all. We expect the ECT
porject coordinators to participate.

The ECT IRC conference is planned to happen every friday from next week on.
 Time is 13:00 - 14:00 GMT. Please use the worldclock [2] to find out your
local time. The name of the channel is #typo3-ect [3].

CVS has Moved to SVN
====================
Andreas Otto has moved the repository of the core and the extensions from
CVS to SVN. [4] Thanks to Andreas for his continuous work.

Trac Access to SVN
==================
Jan-Hendrik set up a Trac installation to comfotably explore the SVN
repositories. [5] Trac provides a bunch of web based tools that support the
 common development of extensions like a pretty SVN Code Browser, a wiki, a
roadmap, ....

We discuss to move this SVN Trac access to typo3.org as soon as the
bottleneck problems of typo3.org are solved.

CAL Joins ECT
=============
As a result of the first ECT IRC conference the calendar Project that is
developing the extension "Calendar Base" with the key cal has joined ECT as
an official project. It is considered as the calendar extension that is
officialy supported by ECT in future.

As a MVC architecture and a base for customized calendars CAL will fit
perfectly into the set of coordinated basical extensions that currently
include lib, div, forms, cal, xajax.

Forms Library takes off
=======================
Christoph Koehler and his project team have started the development of the
forms library with 2 IRC conferences, and a first base class. [6]

xaJax Goes to Stable
====================
The xaJax library has been published as stable in version 0.2.4. [7] A
first extension build upon xaJax occured in TER the "xaJax Shoutbox". [8]

Partner Framework Kick-Off at T3DD
==================================
David Brühlmeier writes: So I'm very glad to announce that the Partner
Framework [1] kicks off! It will take place during the TYPO3 Development
Days [2] in Dietikon, Switzerland, on Friday, 11.08.2006 from 15h-17h. [9][10]

Partner Framework in Diploma Thesis of Oliver Hader
===================================================
Oliver Hader announces: The "Partner Framework" will be the topic of my
diploma thesis, especially doing a review/redesign of data relations,
implementing and extending the extension by use of PHP5 and unit-tests.

Activity Ranking of ECT Projects
================================
The board has started to group the projects by activity on base of subject
measures. This simple kind of ranking should help the community to follow
the ongoings of the projects. At the same time it shows where help or a new
project coordinator may be needed.

Startup of Projects
===================
Elmar initiated the project "Modern Extension Coding Guidelines" to define
some rules that help to integrate the supported libraries of ECT. After a
period of a first draft done by Elmar he will invite the community to
comment and improve the concept.

ECT is still looking for webdisginers and TypoScript developers that run a
project inspired by csszengarden. [12] We have an address in mind for it
like zen.typo3.org. While there are some interested members a project
coordinator is still wanted.

TER2 - The Neverending Story?
=============================
We are frequently asked what will happen with typo3.org and when the TER
will be running again without bugs. Especially developers of extensions and
translators are affected by the children's diseases of TER2.

Currently there is a typical bottleneck situation due to technical
limitations that need to be solved first, before more people can go to work
to improve technic, linking and design. Please be patiant until R&D has
done the necessary technical steps. Please participate actively as soon as
this is possible. [13]
