Hi,

is there any active effort to advance the integration of Doctrine 2 into core?

I think the best starting point would be develop a Doctrine 2 metadatadriver for the TCA - right?
This can be done independently from current core development.

With this driver it should be possible to reverse engineer basic model-classes with the doctrine schema tool ...
