I made my own fork too :) However I am going to work differently:
- I still put all my patches to the official review
- I also put them into my fork regardless of the review outcome
- I sync regularly with the official repo

The goals of my fork are:
#1 - performance
#2 - more backports to earlier branches

I think these forks are not evil. After all, it is just a way to share 
different views on what is important in TYPO3. May be, we will still come 
to a common platform in the end.
