[TYPO3-core] Thinking about a lightweight backend - what do you think?

I like pragmatic and realistic solutions! If i understood you right, you
first want to have a new "backend API" and then it would be easier to
have a new backend, right? Well yes, that might be an option. And i
think we are then talking about 2 projects:
a) REST API
b) Thin shiny modern backend for the editors daily work.
Sounds good to me.
Would you offer your help in project a)? Or is there already a project
going in that direction?
