I have exactly the same problem you described in the beginning of the 
thread when pushing to Incubator.git (for the FAL project).

(error: failed to push some refs to 
'ssh://lorenzulrich@review.typo3.org:29418/TYPO3v4/Incubator.git' To 
prevent you from losing history, non-fast-forward updates were rejected)

The only workaround I found was pushing to the 
refs/for/project-fileabstraction and giving my own +2 in Gerrit. This 
worked fine. I'm interested in the outcome but didn't find out more by 
myself.
