In most cases the poor *users* can't help it. Old IE browsers are used 
in corporate environments where some suit has decided that not updating 
yea olde browser will save the IT department a bit of money (while other 
departments have to spend more to make their website suitable for old 
browsers).
The rest of the users who have old browsers simply don't know how to 
upgrade or have systems which can't be updated.

Wasn't that the reason for using sprites? Less requests because the 
sprite was loaded once? So, do we really need data-uris?
