Since I still can't manage to keep the details of the various sprite 
patches separate, I'll point to my comments on #14486.

After testing the backend for a while, it is much, much closer than 
yesterday. There's still some cleanup work but in the interest of 
allowing the skin work to proceed I'll give my +1 on testing and wait 
for followups to fix the minor issues.
