the themes are one aspect.
but also the technical aspect should be kept in mind:

my points:
- bigger pictures!
- with fractal-like details (e.g. trees with leaves)
- with (nearly) monochromatic areas (e.g. bird in the sky)
- with well known 'reference'-colors so everyone can see colordistortions

some experts on image processing should give more hints
