Your posting in typo3.test is perfect ;) My thunderbird says:

Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=11983-follow-up.diff
Content-Type: text/plain; name=11983-follow-up.diff
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

And displays it inline (and colored thanks to the colored diffs add-on).
