+1 by reading and testing

but could you please perhaps ask a native english speaker for advice on
the wording? For me "This content element references a file which seems
to not exist" sounds pretty strange ("which seems not to exist" or even
"which does not seem to exist" both sound better to me, but I'm not sure
what is right here).
