There are quite a few examples I could tell you:
- override the image with a different one, so you can define a thumb 
which shows another image and not just the original in a smaller size
- use some fance gifbuilder thing to create a copyright note on the 
image as watermark
- show the large image only to users who are logged in. all other still 
get something to click but get only an image which says "register and login"
- show the large image only to users who are logged in and all others 
get the image in low resultion or 50% black or whatever

would this be enough?
