The thing is that there are so many ways to go about upgrading. In my 
case it was a bit special as I was already working with Trunk. All I did 
was a svn update which added rsaauth and then I couldn't log into the BE 
anymore. It worked again after deleting the temp_* files, but there was 
no outright reason to think that this was necessary.

I would think that someone who upgrades from 4.2 to 4.3 will delete the 
temp_* files anyway, but that may not be true for people moving from 
e.g. 4.3alpha2 to 4.3alpha3.
