easy:

"fixed_lgd_pre" (the deprecated method) truncates a string at given
length and _prepends_ '...'

The replacement method "fixed_lgd_cs" _appends_ '...' after x chars. Now
when we want to replace the first method with the second we have to use
a negative char length. (And I just realize I can't really explain
code... I hope you understood despite my jumbled explanation)
