No, I think Dmitry did that on purpose.

A patch that may go into 4.1 is to log the getURL failure (and still do the 
redirect).

I have no opinion whether the redirect is any good. Perhaps and addtional 
config var can decide what to do on handler errors. Note that there are 
other possible failures too. Eg. when you use a user function and misspell 
something. This will get you an ugly PHP error.
